Young man drowns in Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. – A young man has drowned in Cancun after ignoring red flag warnings set out along the beach.

The accident happened at Playa Delfines, a popular beach in Cancun’s Hotel Zone. Due to strong waves, Civil Protection set out red flags to warn swimmers about the dangers of entering the water.

Emergency 066 received a distress call at 8:40 Wednesday morning about a drowning. A 23-year-old man from the state of Chiapas was pulled from the water by lifeguards and given CPR by paramedics, however, he was declared deceased. The man, who was swimming in a pair of jeans, was quickly swept under by strong currents.

Officials from the Tourist Police coordinated off the area while waiting for local criminal authorities to arrive. The body was transferred to the Forensic Medical Office pending claim by his family.
