Tulum, Q.R. — Speeding and careless driving have been blamed for a two vehicle crash in Tulum Friday that left several injured.
The driver of a collective service van for the Tulum-Playa del Carmen route lost control of his vehicle due to excess speed. Emergency personnel from Tulum responded to a 911 call that came in a 6:10 a.m.
After arriving on Oko’ot Oriente Street with Cobá Norte Avenue near the Aurrera supermarket, they found the nose of a combi van lodged under the rear end of a large transport truck.
Several people inside the combi were injured. Emergency services worked quickly to removed them from inside the van and transport them to hospital.
Police report that 25-year-old Pedro P, who was the driver of the public transport unit belonging to Tiburones del Caribe union, was driving at excessive speed. Due to his lack of caution while making a right turn, he lost control and projected his vehicle into the back of refrigerated Freightliner food truck.
José A, the 51-year-old driver of the semi food truck, was not injured.
