Woman physically beaten by Playa del Carmen taxi driver after refusing advances

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A young woman was rushed to hospital Monday after she was found beaten and left on a street in Playa del Carmen.

Emergency 911 recorded a call at 7:40 a.m. of a woman laying on the side of the road at Avenue 115 between Paseo Central and 38 Norte. Federal police arrived along with an ambulance to transport the woman for medical attention.

According to preliminary information, the woman was allegedly beaten by a taxi driver after refusing his advances. Medical personnel reported that the woman was physically assaulted about the face and body.

According to the victim, 21-year-old Y.N., she and friends went for drinks to two bars in Playa del Carmen before calling a taxi to take her home. Once inside the taxi, which she caught at Juarez and 20 avenues, the driver offered sex to which she refused.

She said that was when he began hitting her while in the taxi. He then removed her from the taxi where he continued to physically attack her, leaving her lying on the street.

The alleged perpetrator managed to escape. She did not see the name of the driver or the unit number, only that it was a local Playa del Carmen taxi.
