Woman killed after Cancun police, private car collide

Cancun, Q.R. — A woman was killed over the weekend after being tossed out of the vehicle in which she was a passenger. The fatal accident happened in SM 98 after a private vehicle and police truck collided.

According to preliminary information, it was at 3:44 a.m. when the driver of the private security vehicle failed to stop and give way to a responding police unit. The private car entered Andrés Quintana Roo Avenue and into the path of the fast-moving patrol.

The car, which was driven by 36-year-old Eber N, was redirected by the impact with both vehicles coming to rest at a Pemex gas station. The female passenger of the private security vehicle, identified as Kenia N, was thrown from the car. She landed on the ground beside the station’s gas pumps.

Police and paramedics quickly responded to the emergency call, however, the woman was pronounced on scene. There was no report of injured officers in the collision. The driver of the private security vehicle was arrested.

It is the second time in a week that a private vehicle has failed to yield to a responding police unit. Last week, four Cancun officers were rushed to hospital after the driver of a private truck failed to give way to a responding unit.
