Vacationers who use the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM), Alabama’s largest airport, can hop on the new non-stop flight and head straight to Cancun, Mexico.
The new weekly direct departure is being offered by Vacation Express beginning May 20, 2015 and remain available until August 2, 2015. The company will offer the flight as your gateway to Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, Riviera Maya, Riviera Cancun and Classic Cancun for superb beaches, tranquil coves, humming cities and the most affordable all-inclusive deals.
This latest Cancun addition makes it the 18th city that Vacation Express offer all-inclusive packages with airfare.
In a statement, the company said, “Vacation Express is thrilled to bring our new and exclusive non-stop flights from Birmingham to Cancun, the gateway to Classic Cancun, Riviera Maya and Cozumel.
“The convenience in boarding at this beautiful and easy to navigate airport will make traveling on these flights a pleasure. I have personally been involved with selling travel and working with travel agents in Alabama since the beginning of my travel industry career which started over 25 years ago. Today’s Birmingham seems ready to take on the world — which means they need a break from time to time to take a vacation — with Vacation Express’ new nonstops, there is a more convenient way for people from Alabama to travel to Cancun.”
They explain that they have teamed up with top-rated airlines that offer a ‘first checked-in bag free’ service, along with some affordable first-class options. When going “all-inclusive,” you pay one price for your accommodations, all meals and drinks.
With flights leaving in the mid-afternoon and returning early afternoon, flights are scheduled on the best days of the weekend.
Alfonso Denson Birmingham Airport Authority President and CEO explains, “This is a monumental milestone in Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. This will be the first non-stop international flight to clear customs at BHM and a major achievement for Birmingham, the community and airport.

We thank Vacation Express for providing this service and a great vacation option to this summer’s schedule for Alabamians across the state.”
Cancun is only the nonstop flight option for travelers leaving Birmingham. Starting May 20, 2015, travelers will be a mere 2-hour flight away from beautiful, warm destinations like Cancun, Riviera Maya and Cozumel. Flights to Cancun International Airport, the gateway to Classic Cancun and Riviera Maya, will be departing on Wednesday, May 20 for a special one-time only flight featuring 4-night vacations with weekly nonstop flights every Sunday beginning May 24 for 6-night vacations.
Weekly flights will be operated by Aeromexico, a SkyTeam member, with their 737-800 planes that offers 16 first class and 134 comfortable cabin seats, more leg room main cabin seats and wider 2×2 seating in first class. Passengers also receive a complimentary bar, snacks, in-flight entertainment and a free checked bag up to 44 lbs per person.
