Chetumal, Q.R. — A plane loaded with a ton of cocaine that landed at the Chetumal airport was quickly abandoned after the pilot aborted his intended destination of a Belize roadway.
A small plane loaded with a ton of cocaine landed at the Chetumal International Airport without permission from local authorities. Reports say that the plane changed course after the two men on board the aircraft saw police on the Belize highway.
There were no arrests.
The aircraft is in the possession of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Attorney General’s Office. The aircraft is similar to other types used to transport drugs in the area, with a recent plane being found burned after its crew and cargo were removed.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) the plane N988NN found at the Chetumal airport is a United States aircraft registered in Fort Worth, Texas. It was flying with its registration number upside down.
