Cancun, Q.R. – A man carrying an American passport has been arrested at the Cancun International Airport after a routine check found him in possession of counterfeit money.
During a luggage inspection, custom officials found the American man with a checkbook and more than 100 fake $100 US bills bundled inside his suitcase. The discovery was made in Terminal 2 of the airport where custom officials requested support of the national security.
In a statement, the National Security Commission said that elements of the Federal Police were alerted that the man was likely in the possession of counterfeit US currency. The currency has since been confirmed as fake. The US Consulate has been notified of the arrest of an American citizen.
