Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Ferry company Ultramar has begun operating their new Ultracarga boat at the Punta Sam-Isla Mujeres crossing.
Seven months after its arrival, the boat has finally begun operating, now offering both pedestrian and cargo crossings to and from the island to the mainland at Punta Sam outside Cancun. The company said that their boat remained docked for several months while they waited for terminal adjustments and permits.
The Integral Port Administration of Quintana Roo has confirmed the start of operations for the new ferry service. Rosa Elena Ríos Fernández, head of Apiqroo at Isla Mujeres, explained that the vessel began operations last week with authorization from the Harbor Master’s Office.
Ultramar says they will offer the services starting from mainland Punta Sam each morning at 6:00 a.m. and will run until 10:30 p.m. from Isla Mujeres. Rates vary by vehicle type and size, however, the cost for a typical compact car with a family of four is 250 peso each way, while a full, double semi trailer (50 tons, 25 meters long) will be charged 4,130 peso.
Walk on passengers are also accepted with Ultramar charging 40 peso for adults and 15 peso for kids.
