Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The ferry service company, Ultramar, has announced a price increase for ferry tickets to and from Cozumel-Playa del Carmen.
The increase, they say, will only affect tourists and not locals with identification. The company says the increase is the result of a new boat that has been purchased to offer a better quality of service.
According to Sergio González Gouldtaylor, Manager of Ultramar Playa del Carmen, “This new boat has a capacity of 850 people . It is a 49 meter boat with three decks,” he says adding, “It has a main lounge and the upper level has a 360 degree panoramic deck.
“We have live music, all-leather wide, reclining seats. There is a kids club area, a pool of balls, televisions, movies for children, a lunch area, snack bar and in the bow you can travel as in a catamaran,” said González Gouldtaylor.
He explains the round-trip price for tourists increased from 300 to 390 pesos however the cost for islanders remains the same price of 140 peso with official local identification.
He says that the new passenger boat will get passengers to and from Cozumel and Playa del Carmen in a time of about 20 minutes, which is half the time of the current boats.
The new prices came into effect this week.
