Two youths arrested for Cancun business extortions

Cancun, Q.R. — The Attorney General of the State of Quintana Roo reports that investigative police officers arrested José P and Marytere P for the crime of extortion in compliance with a warrant issued by a judge.

Police intelligence work resulted in both José P and Marytere P being linked in at least three cases of extortion to food and beverage establishments in different parts of the city of Cancun. The pair are alleged to have requested varying amounts of cash in exchange for not being attacked by an armed group.

The first investigations establish that on February 29, they went to an establishment located on Cancún Avenue in superblock 510 to demand a floor right payment, showing themselves as members of a criminal group.

Derived from the judicial instruction issued by the judge, they were arrested on Monday afternoon in Superblock 4.

The State Attorney General’s Office continues with the investigations in order to determine the probable participation of other people in these events and if there are more merchants aggrieved by this crime.
