Two vehicle crash causes jam along Playa del Carmen highway

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An accident along the federal Playa del Carmen-Tulum highway left one with injuries in a two-vehicle crash resulting in a major lineup of traffic.

The accident happened around 9:00 a.m. near Punta Venado when the driver of an SUV crashed into a metal pole that sent the vehicle into oncoming traffic where it crashed again, but into a car. Preliminary reports say the driver of the SUV hit the pole and then crashed into a car after the driver tried to avoid the oncoming SUV. The car ended up on its roof in the ditch.

The female driver of the SUV was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries. Both vehicles were considered total losses. A traffic jam of more than 500 meters was created due to the crashes.

In early September, another accident in the same area of Punta Venado left one tourist dead after a bus rear ended a combi who had stopped for a passenger.
