Two men arrested at Plaza Las Americas Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. — Two men were arrested in Cancun after snatching a purse from a woman in the parking lot of Plaza Las Americas.

The incident occurred at noon Thursday in the parking lot of Plaza las Americas where two men approached the woman and ran off with her purse. Minutes later, they tried to use her credit card to make a purchase at a nearby pawn shop.

The woman called police and reported the theft of her handbag. Police were quick to arrive. Since she was able to identify her assailants, they were arrested. After their arrest, others on social media came forward recognizing the pair for area robberies.

The two men are also suspected for being responsible for the numerous car break-ins at the popular shopping mall.

The detainees were identified as Eslivani “N”, 28 years old originally from Chiapas and Víctor “N”, 26 from Veracruz.

The Municipal Police said that the pair are being held for theft of the handbag, however, they are asking the public to come forward if they have been assaulted or robbed by the pair. Police note that thefts of car batteries and other auto parts have increased in the plaza parking lot as well as in downtown office lots.

Both subjects remain with the Public Ministry to start with the pertinent inquiries.
