Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Two men on a motorcycle died instantly when they drove into the back of a tractor trailer along the Playa del Carmen-Tulum highway.
The accident was recorded around 11:00 p.m. near the entrance of the Calica maritime terminal south of the city of Playa del Carmen. The driver of the Kenworth was traveling along the highway and reportedly made an improper lane change without signaling.
The change of lane caused the motorcycle to collide with the back of the large unit. Due to the speed of both, the motorcycle became engaged with the rear bumper and left rear tires of the Kenworth.
Both men died instantly with one being hit by the tires and the other being thrown from the motorcycle, which was embedded in the back of the tractor trailer.
Passing motorists called emergency services while the driver of the trailer fled the scene.
Members of the Federal Highway Police arrived to cordon off the area. Paramedics arrived to offer medical attention, however they confirmed that both were deceased. Neither of the two men have been identified.
