Two killed in Guerrero mine landslide

Teloloapan, Guerrero — A landslide at the Minera Capela in the city of Telolapan has left two miners dead and three others injured after a team of five workers were buried in mud.

In a statement, Capela said that a landslide was registered Wednesday that buried five workers from the contracting company Vilsa Construcciones. Two died and three were transferred to private hospitals in Teloloapan.

Marco César Mayares Salvador, the Secretary of State Civil Protection, confirmed the landslide occured near a dam around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Upon learning of the accident, personnel from Capela arrived at the site to assist in rescue efforts. The three injured people were transferred to private hospitals in Teloloapan where they are reported stable.

“We are making sure that the contractor company accompanies family members and supports them financially in this difficult time,” Capela said. The mine is located in the northern portion of the state of Guerrero.
