Two German tourists rescued from sea after sailboat capsizes

Bacalar, Q.R. — Two German tourists have been rescued from the sea after their sailboat overturned due to strong winds.

Two tourists vacationing in the municipality of Bacalar were rescued from the water Thursday after their sailboat Lula  capsized. The incident happened just before noon near the Casa Lamat hotel.

A nearby boat captained by 51-year-old Víctor Manuel Galván Velázquez, says he noticed what was happening and quickly came to the aid of the two men. With the help of police, he returned to shore with both men and their boat in tow.

According to the police report, it was around 11:49 in the morning when the municipal police of Bacalar received a report through the 911 emergency number of an overturned sailboat which was sinking at the height of the Hotel Casa Lamat at kilometer 22 on Costera Norte Avenue.

When they arrived, they saw a white sailboat overturned with two people who were being helped by another boat Galván. Once ashore, police met with sailor Marhas Heaaimg, who said that due to strong winds their sailboat overturned and that he and his sailing partner were unharmed.
