Cancun, Q.R. — Two men were killed Wednesday after a motorcycle collided with a bicycle in a residential area of Cancun.
The accident occurred on Avenida Cancún at 8:20 p.m. when a motorcycle collided with a bicycle who suddenly veered into its path. The driver of the motorcycle died on scene while his passenger was transferred to hospital with severe road rash.
The man who was riding on the bicycle died a short time later in hospital.
According to the preliminary report, the motorcyclist was circulating on Avenida Cancún when the cyclist, who was in the right lane, made an imprudent maneuver to cross into the left lane, which resulted in the two colliding. Due to the speed of both, there was no time to stop.
Experts from the State Attorney General’s Office confirmed the death of the motorcyclist at the accident site, while the cyclist was transferred to the hospital where he later died.
Paramedics also transferred the passenger of the motorcycle who suffered severe road burns after being dragged for several meters along the street before the motorcycle finally came to a stop.
