Two detained in Cancun murder of young woman that sparked protests

Cancun, Q.R. — Authorities have reported the arrest of two men believed responsible for, and or related to, the recent death of a woman in Cancun. The Attorney General of the State says that the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Investigation and Persecution of the crime of Femicide have presented two male persons before a judge who they say, probably participated in the death of a woman identified as B.A.L.A.

The State Attorney General, Mtro. Óscar Montes de Oca Rosales, indicated that the work undertaken by the ministerial authority resulted in the arrest of the two subjects since they possessed the victim’s cell telephone. “It is a great achievement to get Alexis’ phone back. We are going to find the perpetrators sooner or later, whatever the cost,” he said.

Montes de Oca Rosales also said that three other people are at the disposal of the public prosecutor related to the case.

The case sparked local outrage last weekend after the body of the 20-year-old was found murdered two days after being reported missing. A protest was held the following day. The young woman was delivering an item to the address of the Cancun home when she went missing. Her body was found two days later.
