Two dead, one injured in Cancun Hotel Zone beach shooting

Cancun, Q.R. — Police responding to the 2:00 p.m. report of gunfire at Cancun’s Playa Tortugas arrived to find two dead males. Both men, believed to be in their 20s, were discovered deceased, laying on the ground within the small shopping area of the beach.

They also found one injured person, a woman from the state of Kentucky who is reported to be a visitor.

Forensic medical personnel were called to remove the two bodies, while an ambulance was called for the injured beachgoer, who was said to have received a stray bullet in the left shoulder.

Numerous police were on scene in an attempt to locate those responsible for the Cancun Hotel Zone, however, witnesses to the event told authorities that the men who did the shooting fled the area on a jet ski afterward.

The two deceased are reported to have been local street vendors. Their identities have not been revealed. It is the second deadly shooting at Playa Tortugas this year.

In March, three people were arrested for the shooting death of two, an unrelated male and female, in the same beach area. The three men were taken into custody after police reviewed security cameras.
