Two Canadians drown in Tulum

Tulum, Q.R. – Two Canadians died in the resort town of Tulum on Wednesday when their bodies were seen floating offshore.

The accident occurred around 7:00 p.m. when the pair, 54-year-old Susan Draummond and 65 year-old Steve Eley, both from Canada, entered the sea outside the Gran Bahia Principe hotel where they were staying.

Officials say it appears the woman suffered a cramp while swimming and began to experience trouble in the water. When her partner came to offer assistance, he was overcome by the strong waves. Both died of drowning.

News of the accident was not made official until Thursday night. The Canadian Consulate has been informed of the accident and are working with local authorities to have the bodies returned to Canada.
