Cancun, Q.R. — The bodies of two men were found floating in water near Cancun’s Isla Blanca.
Emergency officials were called to the scene when a passerby saw the body of a man floating just off the shore of Isla Blanca. When officials arrived, they found the body of an elderly man floating in the water. The man was naked and without identification.
When leaving the scene with the first body, officials discovered a second male body approximately six nautical miles away from where the first man was found. The second body was seen floating at the edge of a mangrove. The second lifeless man was brought to shore for processing by medical experts.
Both bodies were taken to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for autopsies. One man was found to have died by asphyxia by drowning, while it was determined the second man died of a heart attack a few days earlier.
One of the men has since been identified as José Luis Allen Cárdenas, a 72-year-old native of Progreso, Yucatan. The identity of the second man remains unknown.
