Two arrested at Cancun airport for fake documents, cash

Cancun, Q.R. — On Wednesday, two people were arrested at the Cancun International Airport in separate incidences for fake documents and carrying half a million in cash.

An air taxi passenger was arrested for transporting almost half a million peso in cash without declaring it.

Eduardo N, a 45-year-old Mexican, arrived at the Cancun International Airport from Chetumal in an air taxi. There, personnel of the Federal Police asked to review the backpack that he was carrying. Upon inspection, they found the man, who was traveling from Chetumal, had nearly half a million peso in cash.

A total of 448,000 pesos was counted in bills. The man was unable to legally prove where he got the money. He was arrested and handed over to the public ministry.

In a separate arrest, an Argentine man was arrested at the Cancun International Airport when he was about to board a flight to Belgium. Officials found his passport contained a false immigration stamp.

The 41-year-old man, identified as Emilio N, was arrested by Federal Police for presenting an Argentine passport with a fake stamp from the Mexican National Institute of Migration (INM).
