Two Americans arrested at Cancun airport for illegal firearms

Cancun, Q.R. — Two people have been arrested at the Cancun International Airport for entering the country with firearms.

In two separate incidences, two Americans were arrested Monday when they were found carrying guns and ammunition into Mexico without permits.

The first arrested was an American woman from Detroit, Michigan who was found carrying a Ruger .38 with a magazine of 6 cartridges. The discovery was made at Terminal 3 by Federal Police. The woman’s luggage underwent a random baggage check when the firearm was found.

The woman was arrested when she was unable to provide the necessary legal documents to enter the country with the weapon.

On Monday, an American man from San Louis, Missouri was arrested at Terminal 4 of the Cancun International Airport after a baggage scan revealed a Blazer Brass 9 mm Luger with a box of 50 cartridges. The man was also without the legal documents required to bring a firearm into Mexico.

Both have been placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).
