Cancun, Q.R. – Turkish Airlines will begin offering services to the Cancun International Airport starting May.
The airline will begin offering one flight per week from Istanbul to Cancun via Mexico City. CEO of the Cancun CVB, Jesús Almaguer Salazar, said that they have been working negotiations for nearly two years with Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste –Asur to open this market.
He says that when the Turkish flight arrives in May, it will be the airline’s first flight to reach Mexico and the first flight for Cancun in its history. He also added that he does not yet know what type of airline they will operate for the route, however, taking distance into consideration, the air company will likely choose a aircraft that can offer a long-distance capacity of at least 300 people.
Until now, Turkish Airlines Hispanic America route only included Buenos Aires, but in September, the company plans to expand again into Colombia.
The Middle East has been searching to add more international destinations to their routes. They also intend to add Chile and Cuba as choices from their hub in Turkey. Turkish Airlines currently offers connections to more than 250 destinations.
