Tulum, Q.R. — A new highway extension for Tulum has been announced. The much-needed extension of Kukulcan Avenue will see the road connect to Tulum- Boca Paila.
Director of Planning, Elsy Juanita Pinkney Toledano, says that the extension will help ease traffic congestion that is felt more and more around the area’s Hotel Zone, noting that during holiday seasons, vehicle traffic is very bad.
Land for the road extension was negotiated with an ejido landowner who yielded 1,500 meters of land to allow for the new road. The new connection will deviate south to avoid the area mangrove, however, once complete, the route will allow better access for the coastal region.
According to Municipal Transit Authority, the Tulum-Boca Paila road sees approximately 2,000 vehicles per day, a figure that climbs to approximately 5,000 per day during high season.
