Tulum boat accident sees 6 injured

Tulum, Q.R. — A boat accident on Saturday has left six injured, one critically.

The accident occurred around 12:30 in the afternoon along the shores of Punta Allen when reports say a tour boat returning from whale watching failed to yield and ran into another boat that was not moving.

Preventive Municipal Police arrived and found two tourists, a 29-year-old-woman and her 32-year-old husband from Italy, injured and lying on the boat Ballena. The couple, along with four others, were brought to the mainland and transported to hospital by ambulance.

While the husband was treated and released, his wife remains in critical condition at CostaMed with head injuries.

Officials say the boats involved in the accident belonged to Gaytanes. Captains of both boats were taken to the Public Ministry of Tulum while the boats were secured for Port Captaincy.
