Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An accident Monday morning left a large section of the Playa-Cancun roadway littered with debris.
Emergency 911 was called around 10:00 a.m. Monday morning after a small car and large work truck collided, resulting in the front of the small car being completely destroyed.
The accident occurred between a Nissan Tiida and a tipper work truck near the Vidanta Hotel after, authorities say, the large truck attempted to pass the Nissan car.
Several people witnessed the accident.
Paramedics of the Red Cross, transit elements and Federal Police were requested at the scene where they found the driver of the Nissan with minor injuries.
According to information by authorities, the driver of the Western Star dump truck was traveling from on federal highway 307 after leaving a construction site. When he attempted to pass the Nissan, the two collided.
The front axle of the truck was dislodged from the dump truck, while the car sustained major damage to the front.
The driver of the truck fled the scene.
The material losses were valued at just over 250,000 peso. The case has been turned over to the ministerial authorities.
According to the Mexico insurance industry, less than half of vehicles on Quintana Roo roads carry any form of auto insurance.
