Tulum, Q.R. – Many hotels in Tulum are reporting near-maximum capacity as they say most of the town is experiencing between 90 and 100 percent occupancy.
The Easter holiday season has brought many tourists, most of which are international, says one worker from Posada La Mar. Adriana Dávila commented that the hotel reached its peek this week after domestic travelers arrived, but, many of the guests are international from places such as Germany and France.
International guests who arrived for the holiday season booked hotel stays months in advance, while many of the domestic travelers booked last minute. Dávila points out that 80 percent of their current guests booked with reservations while 20 percent arrived last minute looking for rooms.
Receptionists at the Tulum Bay hotel say they had a decent occupancy rate in the weeks before but that now, they are a “full house”. They said that the Tulum tourists consist of various nationalities and that they are leaving a large economic footprint in all sectors of the town, not only the hotels.
Restaurant managers have also noted an increase in patrons, saying many eating establishments have reached 70 percent capacity already this Easter season, while others say they have lineups for night time diners.
Tulum has maintained its own concept, different from other nearby places such as Cancun and Playa del Carmen, where people visit Tulum for its ecological environment and connection with nature.
