Tourists say they were thrown out, hotel says different

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two tourists who were seen walking along the highway between Tulum and Playa del Carmen say they were removed from their hotel, however, the hotel says they left on their own.

A concerned citizen saw the pair walking along the highway and alerted 911. The Red Cross arrived to Fifth Avenue around 10:15 a.m. where they found them. Each was treated for mild dehydration.

According to reports by the Federal Police, the pair, who were from England, reported being removed from their hotel that morning and their belongings stripped which is when they proceeded to walk to Playa del Carmen.

The hotel, Bahia Principe Tulum, says the pair walked out the night before with an outstanding tab of 10,000 peso. The hotel said the pair had run up a bill, mostly of alcoholic beverages, during their stay and that they left the hotel the night before without their luggage.

The tourists, Antoni Merchant and James Rebekah, said they wold request the assistance of their embassy to recover their possessions.
