Tourist Security Battalions continue to safeguard Cancun, Riviera Maya beach destinations

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The Tourist Security Battalion of the National Guard continues safeguarding public beaches in Cancun and Riviera Maya. Commissioner Alberto Román González Fernández, state coordinator of the National Guard, says the Battalion continues to maintain its presence.

He says Cancun and Riviera Maya visitors can feel safe and enjoy their vacation with peace of mind while in the state. The Commissioner stated that elements are deployed along the continental coastal zone of Isla Mujeres and Benito Juárez (Cancun), as well as in Puerto Morelos, Solidaridad (Playa del Carmen) and Tulum.

“The Battalion carries out specific activities of attention to tourists, of social proximity, which is one of the main purposes of the National Guard. That of preserving life, safeguarding the integrity and property of people,” explained Commissioner González Fernández.

Elements of the Tourist Security Battalion have the mission of providing security through prevention and orientation actions, as well as the protection of the cultural, natural and tourist heritage that is concentrated in this region.

Among its functions are the definitions of tourism risk, the detection and prevention of crimes against tourists and the provision of documentation and information to citizens.

The security activities carried out by the Battalion contributes to the tasks coordinated with other corporations that participate in the reconstruction of peace and tranquility in Quintana Roo.

They play an important role, considering that tourism is one of the main economic activities of the entity, he explained.
