Cancun, Q.R. — The Cancun International Airport was the busiest in the country with a spike in flights that show Toronto and Chicago and being the most flown international routes.
The Ministry of Communication and Transportation says that reports from national airports show Cancun as being the busiest in Mexico during the month of February with the top route being Mexico City to Cancun.
The Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics reports that during the month of February, 750 flights arrived to/from Mexico City to Cancun International, an increase of 43 flights over the same time last year.
On international flights, Cancun was also within the top 10 globally with the most frequent routes arriving to Cancun from Toronto. In February, 191 flights made the Toronto-Cancun trip, an increase of 14.2 percent over February of last year.
Not far behind were flights making the trip to/from Chicago-Cancun, New York-Cancun, Cancun-Atlanta and Montreal-Cancún. Reports show that there were 148 Chicago-Cancun flights registered in February.
The New York-Cancun route was made 128 times with Cancun-Atlanta flying back and forth 122 times and Montreal-Cancún taking passengers to the sunny beaches 120 times during February, which for Montreal, was an increase of 23.5 percent.
According to OAG, the world’s largest air transport data network, there are more than 5.1 million airline seats scheduled for the Cancun International Airport in the first half of this year. The figures show an increase of 374,661 seats over the first half of 2017, reflecting an 8 percent increase of interest for the region.
