Toppled LP tank with gas leak closes Cancun traffic

Cancun, Q.R. — Emergency services of Cancun were called to the scene of an accident that involved two vehicles, one of which was loaded with 1,000 liters of LP gas.

Federal Police say the traffic mishap occurred along a section of the Merida-Puerto Juarez highway at around 10:20 a.m. The accident consisted of a collision between a dump truck and a loaded LP gas vehicle that dislodged the tank leaving it to rest in the middle of the highway.

According to preliminary information, the collision between the two forced the closure of the roadway in order for authorities to carry out emergency protocols. The clean up lasted several hours, restricting traffic until after 1:00 p.m.

The rollover was allegedly caused by excessive speed. The accident left two people with minor injuries but substantial material losses since the gas tank became detached from the bed of the truck and the delivery line of the LP truck presented a leak.
