Cancun, Q.R. — The Federal Consumer Protection Agency for the state of Quintana Roo (Profeco) reports that for every 100 complaints it receives, the outcome for 91 are in favor of the consumer.
Profeco’s Gamaliel Canto Cambranis said since the beginning of the year, the agency has had 1,639 complaints lodged by consumers. They say that 56 percent of resolved issues involve the recovery of money back to the consumer.
Profeco reports show that the highest consumer complaints for this year were against telecommunication companies, water, light and tourism companies, particularly in the area of timeshares.
The most common complaint consumers file is a company’s refusal to correct errors in sales and refusing to terminate contracts.
Profeco continues to visit companies with more than 2,100 inspections in businesses throughout the state so far in 2016.
