Monterrey, Nuevo León — Civil Protection have reported the deaths of seven with at least 13 injured after a three-story building collapsed in Monterrey.
On Thursday, a three-story plaza collapsed killing seven, injuring 13 and trapping two. The two people who became stuck in the rubble were trapped but with audio contact with emergency personnel.
Civil Protection of Nuevo León said the building, which was being constructed in Cumbres del Sol in the Cumbres de Monterrey Zone, had 26 people inside when it began to fall.
According to Miguel Ángel Perales of Civil Protection, 11 of the injured were transferred to hospitals in the metropolitan area of Monterrey. He says the Attorney General’s Office is already investigating the company responsible for the work, which was part of what was to be a commercial plaza.
The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined. The only information released was that the entire building fell into its basement, leaving the base and cube of what would have been an elevator, in tact.
