La Paz, Baja California Sur — Three adult turtles have been rescued by environmental officers at the La Paz International Airport from from being sent via parcel service to Mexico City.
La ProcuradurĂa Federal de ProtecciĂ³n al Ambiente (Profepa) were called to the airport after customs officials found the three turtles in a package bound for Mexico City.
During inspection, Profepa officers determined that the documentation did not comply with the legal requirements to ship the turtles which are a protected species, and were therefore, seized.
The turtles are regulated by the Convention on International Trade for Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, of which Mexico is a member.
