Three Playa del Carmen taxi drivers shot, one killed

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Three taxi drivers traveling in the same car were all shot by a passing gunmen while waiting at a red light.

The shooting happened around 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of the Chemuyil and Colosio avenue in Playa del Carmen. Witness reports say that a gunman in a white Jetta arrived and began shooting at the taxi, hitting all three inside.

The unit, which was from the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río union, was carrying two other taxi drivers as passengers when the shooing took place. The driver of the car was hit in the rib, while his front seat passenger, César L., received a bullet in his cheek.

The backseat passenger, who has been identified as León R. originally from Tabasco, also received gunshot wounds. He was tended to on the roadway while waiting for an ambulance, but died of his injuries.

Police officers arrived and surrounded the area while they gathered evidence. There were no arrests.
