Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A small US-registered airplane that crashed on the grounds of Calica has left three injured.
Head of Public Safety, Alberto Capella reported three people aboard the small plane were left with minor injuries after the aircraft crashed into the ground. He says injured were 52-year-old Diana Agoitia Gil, 19-year-old Santiago and the pilot, 51-year-old Pablo Curts Ahumada.
According to Civil Protection, the plane took off from the Playa del Carmen runway. Shortly thereafter, the pilot requested landing permission from the Cozumel airport tower, however, a strong wind gust caused the pilot to lose control.
The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. Firemen and police from the municipality of Solidaridad along with Civil Protection were on scene.
The aircraft was an ultralight registered in Texas.
