Cozumel, Q.R. — Excessive speed is said to be the cause of a coastal highway accident on Cozumel that left several injured.
Two vehicles were considered write-offs after an accident on the eastern highway of Cozumel Island. It was around 2:00 p.m. when the driver of a Jetta collided with a Versa, both locally registered. The crash was recorded at kilometer 42.5 near the San Martin beach.
According to preliminary information, both vehicles were heavily damaged with the Jetta leaving extensive braking marks along the highway. The accident resulted in three injured.
The Directorate of Public Safety calculated that the driver of the Jetta was doing at least 100 kilometers per hour when it hit the Versa.
Passengers of the Versa were trapped inside. Police needed the assistance of the fire department to cut open the vehicle to free the injured who were taken to nearby hospital.
