Three attacks against Cancun taxi drivers reported in 24 hours

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun taxi driver and his passenger were shot Monday while traveling along José López Portillo Avenue.

It was around noon when a patrolling police unit ran into the bullet-riddled taxi. Inside, they found an injured driver and passenger. Although the taxi driver had been shot, he managed to drive, but was intercepted shortly afterward by passing police who called an ambulance.

Reports say the taxi was stopped by another vehicle, whose occupants opened fire then fled. The driver of the taxi was hit twice. His passenger was reportedly shot in the leg. The status of both men are unknown. It was the third shooting against Cancun taxi drivers in 24 hours.

On Sunday, two taxi drivers were shot and killed in separate attacks in different parts of the city of Cancun. Both of those shootings occurred shortly after 2:00 a.m. The Monday attack took place in broad daylight.
