Three arrested in Cancun for Playa del Carmen murders

Cancun, Q.R. — Three men were arrested in Cancun Wednesday for their alleged involvement in crimes committed in Playa del Carmen.

According to the office of the attorney general, two of the men arrested are deemed responsible for the August 23rd attempted murder of a security guard in Playa del Carmen, while the other man has been identified for a separate murder.

One of the arrested men has been identified for taking the life of Erick Alejandro M.R. in the Playa del Carmen irregular neighborhood of Nuevo Noh Bec in August. The other two have been identified by surveillance video and witness statements the night a security guard at the Playa del Secreto housing complex was shot.

The 33-year-old security guard, who is originally from Puerto Vallarta, was hospitalized after being severely physically assaulted and then shot in the chest twice. He survived the incident and was able to identify his attackers.

The prosecutor of the public ministry of the common jurisdiction reports the three have been detained on arrest warrants and firearm charges. Their investigations will continue.
