Cancun, Q.R. — Thousands took part in the official inauguration of the new military brigade that has been built outside the city of Cancun.
Municipal President Mara Lezama Espinosa was on hand along with state governor, Carlos Joaquín González and president Enrique Peña Nieto for the inauguration of the 10th Military Police Brigade. Other dignitaries included the secretaries of national defense and the national security commissioner.
Lezama Espinosa said that the facilities represent the close security relationship between the three levels of government, with the presence of the brigade strengthening abilities to fight criminal groups together.
The inauguration of the Ciudad Militar (military city) culminates a process that began last July when the state government donated the land to build the military city.
Thousands lined the streets as the parade made its way through central Cancun. More than 3,100 military personnel participated.
Commander of the Tenth Military Region, Francisco Aguilar Hernandez, took the opportunity to welcome the military families ensuring that they will soon love this generous land.
“Cancun is everyone’s land, especially when it comes to the brothers who risk their lives for our safety,” he said.
