Cozumel, Q.R. – An American couple has died after their rented Honda motorcycle crashed into a concrete wall.
According to witnesses, the motorcycle was seen traveling at a high rate of speed on Saturday when the driver lost control and crashed into a concrete harbor wall. Municipal authorities were called to the scene at 3:20 p.m. where they found the two American tourists.
According to reports, the women, identified as 50-year-old Rose Lawana, died instantly while the man, later identified as her husband, 51-year-old Kenneth Thorton, died in hospital. Both were from Texas.
Police say the couple arrived on the island at 7:30 a.m. that morning via a Carnival Liberty cruise ship that docked at Puerta Maya. Cruise passengers were docked to spend a day on Isla Cozumel and were to set sail again at 5:00 that same afternoon.
