Terminal 2 of Cancun International Airport to reopen

Cancun, Q.R. — Due to the continued increase in passengers, managing company Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (Asur) says that Terminal 2 of the Cancun International Airport will reopen.

In a statement, Asur says that as of July 14, the airport’s Terminal 2 will again operate, starting with two national airlines. They added that in order to comply with health obligations issued by the Ministry of Health, they decided to reopen the terminal, which is the one of their busiest. The reopening of the terminal will also help prevent traveler saturation at Terminal 4, which is where all airlines currently land.

Asur says that with the reopening of Terminal 2, domestic flights with Viva Aerobús and Volaris, which currently land at Terminal 4, will be moved to Terminal 2. The company mentioned that the decision was made due to the reactivation of hotels, noting that after an in-depth analysis of the probabilities of reactivation of additional airlines combined with a slight rebound in demand, the reopening was deemed feasible for the safety of travelers and airport operators.

Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste reports that the reopening of the terminal will include the application of screening questionnaires and temperature taking at departures and arrivals.

Both Terminal 2 and 3 were closed in early April after an 80 percent reduction in passenger traffic. Only Terminal 4 has remained in operation. Terminal 2 will reopen July 14.
