Cancun Q.R. — Cancun taxis continue with their effort to prevent Uber from returning to the city, announcing that they are in talks to offer a similar service found in Mexico City.
In a press release, they announced “The Union of Drivers, Taxi Drivers and Andrés Quintana Roo in search of cutting-edge technological solutions […] has entered into conversations with the company L1BRE for the implementation of the digital app used in Mexico City.”
This application would work in the same way as Uber, in that a customer would request a taxi service through an app downloaded on a smartphone. However, there is still no date for launching or operating in Cancun.
If approved, this app would be added to others with which the taxi drivers union already work, such as VIP Fleet launched in 2016, Nekso from Canada that launched in March 2018 and Easy Taxi.
