Cancun, Q.R. — Local taxi unions have agreed on a price increase beginning December 1. The increase in taxi fares will mean a 20 percent increase in rates, said Eduardo Peniche Rodríguez, director of the Frente Único de Trabajadores del Volante (FUTV).
He explained that for the past six months, they have been working with the Secretariat Infrastructure and Transportation (Sintra) and already have the necessary endorsement by the state. He added that aside from the two or three unions that have already increased their rates in recent months, a majority of the 32,000 taxis throughout the state of Quintana Roo will implement the new fees as of December 1.
He says it is not even necessary to justify the increase, since all year they have had to assume the cost of the large increase in gasoline that’s been imposed upon them.
