Swimmers are asked to respect beach flag colors

Cancun, Q.R. – With the busiest holiday season around the corner, the presence of lifeguards will be increased along the entire beach area in Cancun.

Lifeguards will be on hand from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. seven days a week while visitors enjoy one of the busiest holiday season for the region.

Along with lifeguard presence, state Civil Protection says it is very important for swimmers to be alert and understand the meaning of the beach flags placed in the sand by the lifeguards.

Lifeguards determine the waters throughout the day and place colored flags accordingly for the protection and safety of all who enter the sea, however, ignoring flag warnings can be detrimental.

Civil Protection remind people that a green flag means the water is safe for swimming. A yellow flag placed in the sand means those waters need to be entered with caution, while a red flag means dangerous waters that are forbidden.

Every year people die from drowning along Cancun beaches by ignoring red flag warnings.
