Cozumel, Q.R. — A new Sunwing flight from Toronto to Cozumel was received by travel companies over the weekend at the Cozumel International Airport.
Bee Travel and Nexus Tours were on hand to received the Sunwing airline from Toronto, who arrived at the Cozumel International Airport Saturday. The arrival of the flight was marked to have officially begun the winter tourist season.
Sunwing has expanded routes between Cozumel and the Canadian cities of Toronto and Montreal, bringing more visitors directly to the island.
Aeropuertos del Sureste reportes that Canadians make up nearly 9 percent of the islands visitors, noting that already this year, 46,000 Canadians have landed at the Cozumel International Airport, making them 8.76 percent of the visitors.
Visitors who landed at the Cozumel airport Saturday on the Sunwing flight were greeted with mariachis as well as heads of travel agencies and several officials including the director of Tourism of Cozumel, Pedro Hermosillo and Pablo Aguilar of the Tourist Promotion Council of Quintana Roo.
