Study shows Playa del Carmen, Tulum top destinations for vacationing Mexicans

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A new study shows Playa del Carmen and Tulum were the top choices for vacationing Mexicans this Easter holiday season.

According to a study conducted by ReachLocal Mexico, 24 percent of Mexican internet users said they plan on visiting another state during Easter. The most popular national beach destinations for Mexicans were Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta.

San Miguel de Allende, San Cristobal de las Casas, Queretaro and Guanajuato were also preferred holiday destinations by Mexican travelers for the current Easter holiday season.

The largest number of Mexicans who plan their travels using the Internet are from Sinaloa, Sonora, Nuevo León, Mexico City, Jalisco, State of Mexico and Guanajuato.

Residents of Monterrey showed a special interest in traveling to Puerto Vallarta, Orlando and New York, although their searches also reveal interest in trips to Tampico and Real de Catorce. On the other hand, residents of Mexico City carried out searches related to Trips to Canada, Excursions, Short Trips, Day Trips and Aquatic Parks.

According to the study by ReachLocal Mexico, Viajes Liverpool, Bojorquez and Despegar.com are the most-used sites for Mexicans searching for travel quotes or packages with Airbnb being the most highly sought-out platform.

For 2018, TripAdvisor travelers rated Playa del Carmen as the number one destination in Mexico and 15th in the world.
