State remains yellow with warning of returning to orange

Cancun, Q.R. — Governor Carlos Joaquin has announced a third week of yellow for the state’s epidemiological light for the week of September 28 to October 4. He also says that the week will be yellow with a notable increase in infections that could see the region return to orange.

The governor says that the southern portion of the state has registered a rebound in recent days, for which he asked everyone to increase all preventive measures including hygiene and refraining from crowded places.

“Our enemy is the coronavirus. The pandemic has not ended, the virus is there and when we go out, we have to take care of ourselves three times more than when we were in confinement because only in this way will we move forward in the recovery of Quintana Roo,” he said.

He has invited businessmen, small merchants, hoteliers, the entire working sector of Quintana Roo to strengthen prevention measures in health care that will allow the economic recovery to reach the percentages set as goals for these months.

His announcement comes during the same week as another city employee died from Covid-19. Carlos Joaquín said that this week, Cancun police officer Juan Salgado Dionisio died from Covid-19 in the line of duty.

Across the state, the Secretaría Estatal de Salud reports 11,600 positive cases since the epidemic began. They report as of September 25, counted coronavirus cases include Bacalar with 243 positive cases, Benito Juárez (Cancun) 5,358 cases, Cozumel 358, Isla Mujeres has 194, Othón P. Blanco 3,056 positive cases, Puerto Morelos 28, Solidaridad 1,441 and in Tulum 227 cases.
