Chetumal, Q.R. — The special prosecutor’s office in the state of Quintana Roo says they are investigating 90 officers for corruption.
Rosaura Villanueva Arzápalo, head of the Special Prosecutor for the Fight against Corruption in Quintana Roo, confirmed that investigations are currently under way against 90 municipal and state police officers for acts of extortion, abuse of authority and irregular job performance.
She commented that a lot work has been done to combat corruption, and for this reason, a synergy with varying agencies has been created. At the moment, she says 90 officers are under investigation throughout the state.
Villanueva Arzápalo explained that the officers have acted outside the law including abuse of authority, extortion and other issues that need to be investigated.
She said that she is part of a new culture of denunciation on the part of the citizens, and therefore will act accordingly, noting that there are more than 200 files against former and current public servants that should result in new arrest warrants.
