Riviera Maya, Q.R. — A state police officer was killed in a road accident when he overturned his unit due to excessive speeding.
Rural Police officer Carlos Pacheco, died from his injuries after overturning his vehicle near the community of Sabidos. Reports say the police officer was driving at excessive speed and failed to notice a hole in the asphalt.
When his police truck hit the hole, the speed and hole impact caused the vehicle to overturn, pinning him inside the vehicle. The accident occurred at 5:00 p.m. when the officer was reportedly traveling to the rural community of Javier Rojo Gómez.
Paramedics say the officer was not wearing a seat belt, adding that he died on scene.
Witnesses passing the accident reported it to the police station in the town of Sabidos. When police arrived, they realized it was one of their own.
